DESOLATE HEAVEN

by Ailís Ní Ríain

Acclaimed Cork writer and composer Ní Ríain has been making waves in UK theatre for some while now but her work has hitherto been rarely produced in her homeland (she is UK based). This haunting, chilling drama is a story of two young girls burdened with unnatural responsibility. They run away together and meet a bizarre trio of women on their journey. It is a story of falling in love, of fairytales, of feeling too deeply and having to grow up too soon. The play was awarded the Tom Erdhardt Peggy Ramsay Award in 2012. Desolate Heaven was premiered at London’s Theatre 503 in February 2013 and receives its Irish premiere in this co-production between Granary Theatre and the Everyman, as part of the Everyman’s on-going Everyman Touring Initiative whereby new works are premiered at the theatre and then toured throughout the county.

Written by Ailís Ní Ríain and directed by Tony McCleane-Fay, Desolate Heaven stars well known Irish actress Mary McEvoy in a tour-de-force performance as three different characters in this dynamic play, alongside Irene Kelleher and Aine Ryan as the two young girls.

Presented by the Granary Theatre, in association with The Everyman
